In Genesis, the Bible says God planted a garden in the east, in Eden, but to the east of what?

It’s not in the Bible! In Genesis 1:1 God created the heavens and the earth. In Genesis 2:8 God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden, and that’s where He puts the man He formed. Whatever the garden was east of, the direction east in the Bible becomes a big literary design pattern.
